Take action for OUR PLANET

I created a virtual blackboard with the application thinglink (www.thinglink.com) in which you will find videos and links to watch and browse to become more knowledgeable about climate change, global warming, carbon footprint, recycling.   These aspects are essential for us to have the necessary grasp to do something to protect our future, that is to safeguard the environment. Without the environment we cannot exist, so it is high time we learnt something about the necessary steps we need to take to survive and live in harmony with nature.

Read these quotes from Native Indian sages.  What do they have in common?  What thoughts do they prompt?  Which one do you like best? Why?

eat money

we belong to the land

Here you get your interactive eye promoting recyling and not only.

Now use the following padlet to write your comments.  I want you to write two things: a slogan for a t-shirt meant to raise people’s awareness of climate change and the appalling ways we are jeopardizing our environment and thus our own lives.  Then write at least one resolution “I am going to…” to do something to safeguard the environment.  E.g. I am going to turn off the tap when I take a shower.  OR I am going to ask my mum to buy energy efficient bulbs.  Before you write your resolution, make sure that your classmates have not written it already.  So first come first served!!

Last but not least, I would like you to write a poem dedicated to Planet Earth, to the Environment, to Nature.  It could be: Write a poem about what makes nature so grand and majestic. OR Think about the things you do daily to help the environment or how you incorporate elements of nature into your home. Write a poem about the joy and contentment that brings you. OR Find areas that are dealing with big issues of destruction and pollution. Write a poem about the destruction slowly destroying that area, and how it impacts the other communities around it.

Peace By Piece by Celia Berrell

The world is getting smaller and its breaking into bits.

Let’s put it back together.

Peace by piece the puzzle fits.

Repairs can all be tended by the tiniest of friends.

As working all together peace by piece the puzzle mends.

Town And Country Air by Celia Berrell

It’s both town and country air that we ultimately share.

So polluting one expect to get a butterfly effect.

If the key to all our health is to share in nature’s wealth

then we’d best invest a plan to save our wildlife while we can.

Stand Up by Graeme King

Pretend it doesn’t happen

look away you can’t afford to yell or have your say

they have the law behind them and the right and where can we find nerve to stand and fight?

It’s easy to look elsewhere turn your head afraid to ask the questions arms outspread to ask the reasons why they want it all we hear the forest cry and watch it fall.

Be strong. Raise up your hand and join the crowd send out your voice of protest shout it loud

we must preserve the ground on which we tread one day you may remember what I’ve said.

My Cradle, My Tomb by Cristiana Ziraldo

Out of you I came

Welcomed and lulled by your warmth

First I crawled and I could smell the scent of flowers

I could feel the soft cool drops of dew

I rolled down jolly hills

I loved you since Day One, unaware of the century I was doomed to live

Each offence to you offended me

I grew and saw my cradle being filled with waste, I felt like choking

People littering, people blind to your wealth: they traced deep scars in you, ignoring the wounds procured to their own future

I did my best, I respected you at my very best, yet that was not enough

Greed and Ignorance turned my rosy cradle, my happy childhood, into my present grey Tomb.

As you saw in the “interactive eye” there are different ways to raise people’s awareness of environmental issues.  There are governments and environmental institutions that do this through social advertising, either in the form of videos or in the form of printed images/messages.

I want you to look at the following “ads of the world” and say which one you like the most and why.  Which ad has the strongest impact on you?  If you were asked to create an ad yourself, what would it be like?

Then watch the two social advertising videos and state which one you find more effective to raise a young person’s awareness of global warming and climate change.

  1. QUOTES:
My favorite quote is the one based on Cree because in a few words it express an important concept.
Like Prince-ea this quote says that the world will finish because we are killing Nature and we waste the wonderful environment that Nature give us; we don’t safeguard the wold, we just think on money, how to make it and how to spend it and we don’t worry about the Earth and our lives. In fact the quote says: ” will we realize we can’t eat money “, and I chose this quote for this because it opened my eyes and I understood that we kill nature but we also kill ourselves, thinking just on money.

  2. QUOTES:
I liked more the third quote because it means that the environment where we live is necessary for our life and if we use and “kill” it only to earn money, thus we kill ourselves too.

  3. QUOTES
I think all these quotes want to tell us that Earth isn’t ours. We have to take care of her, not only because Earth will retaliate, but above all because if we destroy the environment, it won’t give us what we need.
These quotes make us think that the earth is a very special gift that we have to save before it’s too late.
I really like the quote based on Cree saying because of the message: nowadays we are too much attached to money, but if we haven’t nature we haven’t life, and without life we can’t get or spend money.

  4. These quotes have in common the respect the land that gave our life and nature and that the money should not be our present and future.
    NATIV AMERICAN PROVERBS
this quote make me think that the land does not belong to nobody;and just as it says, the land must leave it to future generations as it is.
    RUSSELL MEANS
this quote suggests that the earth sooner or later will take Revenge of his abusers.
    CREE SAYING
this one says the money isn’t as important as the goods needed to live too.
    NATIV INDIAN WINSDOM
this quote remind us that exactly we belong to the earth,no that is the land that belong to us;this is something never to be forgotten.

I like the “CREE SAYING” because I think it makes more sense of the other three quotes.

  5. Quotes:
This four quotes talk about environment and the importance to take care of our Earth. In these quotes I read wise words that makes you think about nowadays situation of the Earth but the quote that I like better is the second by Russell Means because it talks about true things. For example he wrote that there are no excuse, that everything we do against the Mother Earth will backfire against us. We need to think about our action because they have got a price. I share his ideas and I think we have to appreciate our Earth or better to love our Earth because it suffer especially because of us. Everyone has got a daily routine, someone never think about the environment and the Earth only help us . It offer us food, water beautiful landscapes and more but we never appreciate this things enough. To be honest this quote worried me when I read the least phrases ” Things come full circle, back to where they started”. Probably, in my opinion, it will happen but I hope in the future things will change for a better life and for a better future for our Earth.

  6. QUOTES
They all have in common the prompt on taking care of the Earth before it’s too late. If not, Mother Earth will retaliate and the abusers will be eliminated, because in the end we can’t eat money.
I like the quote based on Cree saying best and I agree with it because money isn’t everything. You can survive with just a piece of land even if you’re poor because Earth gives you anything you need.

  7. QUOTES: I choose the third poem for two reasons. The first one is because I really like it; the second one is because the autor writes something of truth namely now nobody cares of the nature but everybody cares of their own business and their money.

  8. Quotes:
all these quotes talk about the problems caused by humans to nature. These problems will damage all living being and when the humans will notice that it is dangerous for everybody and for our health, will be too late. my favorite quote is “eat money” based on Cree saying because we cannot realize that we are obsessed by money and we don’t care about nature. we will realize that we were born by nature and we die by contaminated nature.

  9. QUOTES: I choose the second poem because we destroy the nature to develop the economy without thinking this thing can demage it, and I think it is also whit a meaning.

  10. QUOTES

I agree with the third quote because I think only when we notice the mistake we did then we feel bad and regret all.
So we don’t understand we don’t eat money but we eat what come from plants, trees and fields. Only then we understand all but at least we don’t do anything beacause if we leave do this another times we will all extinct and our succesors will live in a worst world and maybe the life in the Earth will probably finish.
So for one time, we could think more to our health and life instead of money. Because they will never buy the health of our planet and our lives.
For a better world we don’t need money because we are the saviors of our planet and if we don’t act like we must do we will never conclude with an happy end.

  11. QUOTES
These quotes are all by Native Indian sages who wanted to make people aware of the importance of nature. The goal is to make people feel guilty if they aren’t doing something to safeguard the environment or, even worse, if they are doing something against it. These sages wanted to communicate us that we have to (and we need to) do something about Planet Earth before everything collapses.
I think each one of the four quotes is quite impressive but the one I like the most is the first one because we often talk about our planet as something we inherited already damaged. We tend to blame who was here before us without thinking that the next generation will blame us even more because we didn’t do anything to change the situation, we just made it worse.

  12. All these quotes tell us how important is the Earth and how important is to safeguard the environment.
The quote I like best is the third because people are so greedy that think only how to make money and they don’t see the Earth’s needs.
People ruin the environment with the pollution, the deforestation and the killing of too many animals but they don’t know that is a circle: if we ruin the Earth it will cause us illness and pain but if we take care of the Earth it will give us life and happiness.

  13. -What do they have in common? All the quotes speak of our World and the problems that is in it.
    -What troughts do they prompt?

-Which one do you like best? Why? The third one because says what I thought in whole this time, namely that I’m not the only who live in the World. We’re many that we live in it. Then one thing cannot belongs to 6 milion people but we who belong to that thing. This is true with us and the Earth.

  14. Quotes
These quotes have in common that were said from American Indian and they are simple but intense.
All these quotes have a similar meaning: we were wrong at abuse the environment, but we can prevent the human extinction only struggling.
I really like the third quotes because the world is based on the economy and for some people money are the most important thing, but they (money) couldn’t save the human race from the self destruction. If we don’t reduce pollution, the ecosystem and we all will die.

  15. Quotes: I liked most the first quote because our children are the future generation and they should safeguard our planet more then the adults. Nothing can stop the man mentality but we can change the way you see things. The Earth does not wait us and it can’t change herself. Now, the adults are spoiling it for a simple and relief reason: money. We are the boys and girls of the future and we can’t, or better, we must not remain indifferent to this disaster that little by little is ruining us and we do not realize that it really happens.

  16. They have in common that all want to promote the environment protection. The thoughts that promt are: We borrow the earth from our children, things come full circle, back to where they started, we cannot eat money and you beolng to this land. I like the first, a Native American Proverb. Because I think that we should keep an healthy environment especialy for the new generations.

  17. I chose the Native Indian’s quote because for me,this words catch the attention and make you understand the meaning of this phrases. We think that is the Earth belong to us and for this we believe we can do everything to the nature,to all animals, all plants and we don’t care about all this can cause. Just in the future when there will be nothing to do we will understand that the Earth allowed us to live. And maybe we will feel sorry for what all peolpe did to our friend Earth. This quote reflect the viewpoint of people who want to change the things.

  18. I chose the Native Indian’s quote because for me,these words catch the attention and make you understand the meaning of this phrases. We think that is the Earth belong to us and for this we believe we can do everything to the nature,to all animals, all plants and we don’t care about all this can cause. Just in the future when there will be nothing to do we will understand that the Earth allowed us to live. And maybe we will feel sorry for what all people did to our friend Earth. This quote reflect the viewpoint of people who want to change the things.

  19. QUOTES: For me, these quotes tell us that we must look after the Earth for the good of our successors. Moreover we have got only one Earth and it doesn’t belong to us, so we must respect it. If we don’t respect it, it can’t give us a clean environment.
These quotes make us reflect: Mother Earth has given us a wonderful world and we mussn’t destroy it for our interests or our money.
I prefer the fourth quote because many people in the world think the Earth belong to them, moreover do what they want and don’t think to other people’s health, but we belong to nature and we have to always abide by Mother Earth.

  20. Quotes:
    1. These quotes have in common the message, that is to respect the Earth because we live in and we don’t realize that if we don’t do something we destroy the environment.
    2. They prompt to fight for environment because we interest only for the money and we don’t care of our needs or about tomorrow but some people don’t interest to save the Earth because they are catch up in their doings.
    3. I like the last quote because is direct especially when says “ it is you who belong to this land”. And this is a beautiful message because I understand that we don’t interest only for the money but we try to save environment. The Earth isn’t mine is for all and we fight for save it.

  21. quotes: I think the quote from Native Indians Wisdom is perfect to understand the importance of nature and the environment in our life, because it says that every part of you one day will return to the earth and nobody can say that a land is his property, just because it has always existed, even before the human race was born.

  22. This four texts treat of Earth and its importance of us because it give us food, water and air for us survival and we have to respect it.
I prefer the third quotes because it opens your eyes and it shows you the reality so that you don’t spend the money everywhere and anytime to have happiness, because it ends.
But I like also the end of the fourth quotes “you will remember that this land does not belong to you, IT is YOU who belong to this LAND” because highlight that are you to act to do something for clean planet and no the other people.

  23. QUOTES
Those quotes have in common the love for the Earth and they prompt to saveguard it. I like the fourth photo because it speaks about living in connection with nature, and because it makes me think about the life without technology.

  24. I chose the first quote because it makes me think: we all belong to the nature, we were a part of it, we still are and maybe we will be. So if we came out from it, mother earth is really a mother, then why should not we take care of her as we do with our own mothers? We must respect it because it keeps us alive and if there is no nature, we will not live anymore.
