  1.  This is my poem:
I’m happy…. I’m really happy… but…. How I can know it? I mean, have I something that make me know that I’m happy? I’ll try to explain this. Nothing exists without his opposite, am I right? So, for example yesterday I was happy and two week later I’m crushed and sad…. So I say: “two week ago I was really lucky  ‘cause I was happy”. That’s right but…. There is something strange. If two week later I will be cheerful instead of happy nothing would make me know that two week ago I was lucky, would it?
So… happiness  is made of happiness and unhappiness.  It seems a paradox but this is it. It is quite depressing realize that  human beings need a  storm to know that yesterday it was the sun. it means that if somebody is always delighted  he will never know that he is lucky, so he will be dissatisfied.
Finally this is my verdict:  I’M SO HAPPY TO BE UNHAPPY!!!!!!( SOMETIMES).
Ps: writing about happiness seems to be so superficial, for us. We all have everything. Yes, sometimes we fell upset ‘cause we can fit in, our boy/girlfriend bumps us etc… but these are the smaller things, whims. The truth is that the more we have, the more we want. For this reason I would spit on face of who has everything and cry because his girl/boyfriend has bump him/her. Who cries for a mobile phone or because he has too much to study. These person should try to think about who has no family, nothing to eat, no house. These people have the rights to say “I’m unhappy”. The sad thing is that they never say it. if you give them just a blow of soup you can see their face shining. THIS is happiness. They have the rights to write what happiness is. Not me. I’ve already got everything.

  2. Valerio I loved your poem and the thought-provoking comments you added.  I would just love to add that happiness and unhappiness are so difficult to measure.  We cannot all be that sensitive and sensible to acknowledge our luck and to reckon that others are not as lucky as we are.  Yet, we should not fall into the trap of despising the ones who are incapable of understanding, the ones who are never satisfied. Perhaps we should nourish some kind of uplifting pity for them!

  3. This is my poem:

    Happiness stands in simple things.

I feel gleefull when I see my mum's smile.

I have found happiness in the hopefull eyes of some people.

I feel glad when suddenly my little brother hug me without reason.

When my friends need me I feel important.

When I lie down on the grass, looking at the sky and thinking about my life I don't need anything because I have discovered the happiness' clef.

  4. This is my poem:

Happiness is nothingthtyou can really define
    Everyone's question is why?
    And how…
Wow.. how could you define happiness if somebody asked you?
    What would i say?
Nothing that you can desribe scientifcally but i'll lay it out for you clear as the sky:
Happiness is a special feeling that you have when you feel higher than the sky, nothing can break you down, you feel so fly that it's so contagious even for others

  5. My poem:
I don't know exactly a way to describe happiness; maybe is impossible to find it because everyone has different ideas about delight.
    This is mine:
for me happiness is whenyou are extremly glad, it is a thrilling feeling, is when you are in seventh heaven and in that moment tou would want to jump for joy everywhere and smile to everyone and your mouth is too small to make smiles that you would want. But all these things can't go on for ever, you can't be always on cloud nine. This is a momentary bliss!
However you can be happy  in every second of your existence. Happiness is also when you are in peace with yourself, when you are honest with other people and grateful for all things that you have.
We should be happy even to see the sun rises in the morning and to greet a person; but we think that happiness is far from this, and we are  forgetting the true worths of  life.

I'm happy when I see happiness in the eyes of others
and when I think of my life.

    Is a small thing

  7. Happiness is an odd sensation:
    you feel thrilled and peaceul
    at the same time.

Happiness is very hard to find
when you ere looking for it..
but if you don't think about it
it will take you by surprise
and you will feel more delighted.

  9. This is my poem:

    Happiness…

the most mysterious word of the universe…

    can we describe it?

can we teach what it is to our children?

    can we be really happy?

well, my mind tells me that is a feeling that makes me fine

but my heart tells me that happiness is everywhere, in everything and everyone…

we only should starting to see our world in a deeper and more sensitive point of view.

And the unhappiness? Can we define it?

I think it has the same difficulty to decribe it like the happiness, but we remember its moments much more than we feel happy,

The unhappiness comes when we lose someone we loved,

it comes when we are alone, without any friend…

So my questions in this poem remain, and (maybe?) will still remain without any answer…

  10. This si my poem.
Happines is very hard to describe because nobody of us know what exactly is. For me happines is stay with my friend, not the one that tell you "I am your best friend" ecc. but the one that show it. Stay with my very friends make me happy not stay with the one who try to be that.
For me happines is the life because this is the only present that you recive one time, I am lucky to have recived this precious present. Happines for me is when somebody want to speak with me. Happines for me is when you know knew people. Happines is stay with my family; they are wonderful. Happines is organize football-match with my football team-mate. Friends and family firstly and play football secondly make me happy.
For me this is happines, but the world's popolation is over sex billion people, this is my idea but I'm sure all of us have different ideas: I am happy because i have my friends, they are all for me, they make me happy.
    Riccardo Sartori

  12. Christopher McCandless, known as Alexander Supertramp was born on 12th February 1968 in Southern California. He decided to cross the west america alone, after giving his $ 24,000 savings to Oxfam.

    Alexander Supertramp

He undertook his trip with his old car, then he abandoned it due to a wave of water. Before leaving his car, he burned his savings and got rid of any evidence of his identity, even throwing away the plate of the car. Then he continued on foot walking between the western U.S. and northern Mexico. He spent the last 112 days of his life in the woods of Alaska, in Denali National Park, with the sole refuge of an old abandoned bus, that he called Magic Bus. For a little time, Chris managed to survive with the help of a few tools: a shotgun, a bag of rice, a book about edible plants of the place, and other simple objects for camping. He was found dead inside the bus in August 1992 by two hunters who discovered the body two weeks after the death. Officially he died of starvation (when the body was found weighed about 30 kg), but other possible causes are cold and accidentally ingestion of some poisonous plants. In the old bus, next to the corpse, were found several notes written by him.
Chris was looking for happiness. Instead he found a great truth: "Happiness only real when shared" and I agree. It is a sentence that moves me, as I was emotionful about his story.
Happiness is what we live for, and if we do not live for the happiness then we just survive, and there's a huge difference. It is impossible to explain the feeling of euphoria, joy, satisfaction and delight when you are happy. She comes bringing a spring wind but when she decides that it's time to go you cannot convince her to stay, even praying. But it is something worth fighting for. It is only real when shared.

  13. Happiness is chatting with my mum sitting on my bed

    happiness is dance,

    happiness is singing,

    happiness is listening to music,

happiness is lying under the sun,

happiness is when my favourite football player scores a goal,

    happiness is hugging my brother,

    happiness is meeting new friends,

happiness is going to a concert ,

happiness is seeing people smile ,

happiness is seeing the boy that I like looking at me,

    happiness is laugh,

happiness is when someone says to me " ti voglio bene",

    happiness is travel,

happiness are all the small things that make us happy,

    happiness is happiness.

I think that there isn't a definition that can describe what happiness is. I have searched it on the dictionary but I have only found out that happiness is a mood.

I think that nobody can say what happiness truly is because I think that happiness are all the things that make us happy. Somebody say that happiness is being rich, somebody say that happiness is have many people that love you, somebody say that happiness is dancing all day long … I can only say that unluckily I don't know where lives happiness. If I found happiness' house I will go there and I will ask him:" Hey happiness, why do you sometimes leave people?"

I think that I haven't already found all the happiness, I have only found the letters h,a,p,p,i,n and e because I have a beautiful family, many friends and a home but now ( I know I am teenager…) I fell like I am living in a soap bubble because I see all the people happy, all the people do what they really want … But I fell that I always do the wrong choice. So if anybody have happiness' telephone number please, tell it to me!

  14. Well, I think I'm too young to say what happiness is, but at the same time I'm too old. I'm also afraid that I'll ALWAYS be both too young and too old.

I don't want to philosophize, I'm not sure about what I think, sometimes I'm not sure about my own existence, so I'm not sure I'm really able to define happiness.

    Happiness?
In my opinion, it means FIGHTING FOR SOMETHING. For an ideal. Just pepole who have ideals and proud can feel delighted, satisfied…

But, let's have a bet: I promise you that tomorrow I'll define happiness in another way, and so the day after, and the day after again…

So, don't pay too much attention to what i've written. =D

  15. This is my poem:

Happiness: the friend that you don’t want to lose.

I think happiness is a particular emotion because it is sensitive, brittle, and if you offend it, it will be from an other person.
In life is important to be happy for that we have; friends, family, job, love, because if we are envious people or sad we can’t know happiness.
The part of the person that I like more are the eyes, because when you see into the eyes of an happy person you can see all, his character, his dreams and his source of happiness.
But why is so difficult to be happy??
“We are young, we are strong” says Mika, but we are also weak, stupid, with some problems like school, friends, love or with parents and we forget that the world is not all bad, violent or unfair. Sometimes we are negative, pessimistic and we close ourselves in our shell because we don’t want to talk with somebody or because we thing that nobody can understand our feelings.
And also, happiness is a special emotion that you can’t explain, touch or buy, you can only see Happiness in the eyes or feel it inside your heard. Happiness it isn’t money, work or success, happiness is love and health!!
Happiness is precious and essential if you want a smile in your face.
Finally the happiness is like a friend that you don’t want to lose because it is part of your live!!

  16. "The real way to get happiness is by giving out happiness to other people"

For me this is the key to understand why in our society  we are not happy even if we have everything and much more. Often happiness is only about ourselves: having fun, friends and being in the spotlights. Instead we don't  realize that the real and long-lastig happiness is when you give out happiness to other people.

  17. Happiness, happiness, happines… What a difficoult word!
It is a wonderful word that is hard to say, tough to explain and impossible to understand in his own way.

A lot of words like love, friendship, company, life, sun, smile, joi and health remember me happiness. So I think… How is possible that a strong feeling as happiness could have so different and general meanings?
Therefore the questione are: what happiness is? Does it really exist?

It is certainly something that is not easy to
    explain.

Happiness is something that you feel
    It belongs only to you.
For a child happiness could be a toy,
While for a man it could be the birth of a son
And for a woman maternal love.
It doesn’t mater what the other think.
    If it makes you happy
    It must be something good.
And if it gives you happiness,
Perhaps you can share it with someone else.

The biggest happiness I never felt?
The life that my parents gave me sixteen years ago!

  19. Happiness,
     Well, I'm happy.
I don't know why or how but I know that I'm happy and I'm sure about it.
I'm happy because I know that I can always count on my sister and my friends, my best friends.
I'm happy even when I'm in a party and I cry with my friends for a song that touches my feelings.
I'm happy when I stay on my sofa with my mum, my dad and my sister.
I'm happy when I watch the sky and I know that up there I've someone who watch me (unfortunately).
I'm happy when I make noise and I lough with my friends or when I joke with someone..
SO, unhappiness, for me, doesn't exists. For me in our lifes there is only happiness but we all have moments or periods that we are sad.
I don't want to seem "egoist" in saying this, ( because it is normal that people who are starving don't go around and say "oh I'm happy!" and smile all the time) but for me..
                                                      HAPPINESS IS TO BE HAPPY

  20. What's Happiness?
It doesn't really have a meaning because there's more than one.
What is it to me? and to you? to they?
Maybe a smile or a laugh, sun or rain, money or health.
Happiness is everything and is everywhere.
    We see it,
    we feel it,
    we dream it.
It's like a storm after dryness,
    it's like freedom after thraldom,
    it's like laughter after teardrops,
    it's like silence after chaos
or the nicest of the melodies that pushes away every shadow.
Many other words could explain this one,
    so what's Happiness
    to YOU?

    Rossana Solari

  21. What is happiness for you?
For me is what you love to do.
It is to stay with your friends,
    Hold your boyfriend's hands.
Happiness is the key of your heart
And when you're in both of them you hope not to get back.
It is to love without the desire to change that person,
Without doing things that could make the relationship worsen.
Happiness even could be dancing in a room
Thinking that this will be make you living soon
And you will send away all the gloom,
Like when you're in love looking at the moon.
So live your life in happiness
Do not think of the sadness,
Because the life is the best thing you have
And you have to love it like a mad…

  22. The poems you wrote are really something.  Valeria, your family should be happy to know that they are the source of your gleeful existence.  Nicola, I utterly agree with you: when there are happy people around you, you cannot possibly help but be happy yourself! Lucrezia, the reference to the need to give due worth to happiness is wise. Serena, your poem strengthens the idea that happiness is part of life and as such it should be cherished and it should not be taken for granted.  Valentina P. to echo the Beatles’ refrain “all you need is love” we could say “all WE need is HAPPINESS”.  You should think of a song yourself.  Are you a good singer?  Silvia Z. I like the image of the sunshine to render in a nutshell your image of happiness.  Antonino, as you point out, there is no recipe to happiness and perhaps this is the reason why it is so special and longed for.  Unfortunately, though, you cannot teach anybody how to be happy, but you can set a good example, can’t you? Riccardo, your poem is touching.  Life is a gift and this is the essence of happiness!  Serena V. your poem is really concise, yet full of meaning.  Elena G. thanks for reminding me/us of the wonderful novel and film “Into the Wild”.  We will watch it in class together, if you want to.  A great pearl of wisdom: happiness exists when it is shared.  Valentina P. I do not have Ms Happiness’ phone number and I do not know where She lives.  If I did, I would post it on this blog, so that lots of people could benefit from Ms Happiness’ address.  However I know that your poem and post has made me happy.  SO, perhaps Ms. Happiness has the same telephone number as yours! Laura the Best, you point out that happiness is an ever shifting state of mind, it is never the same and for this very reason it is special.  Feeling to young and too old at the same time is a perception that lots of us have.  You feel old when you have had lots of “emotional” experience, you feel young when you know there are lots of other things you want to experience in your life.  This is the way I see it.  From a “bizarre” but energetic teacher to a “thoughtful and creative” musician!

Let’s rejoice all together for the great satisfaction you are giving me.
    Cristiana Ziraldo

  23. Giada, your poem could just be "happiness is the friend you do not want to lose".  Elisabetta, yours could be "give out happiness to the others and be happy".  Emanuele thank your parents for having given you such great happiness in your life.    Arianna happiness is contagious, as another classmate of yours wrote, so do not ever feel selfish if you are happy.  By being happy you can make other people rejoyce and appreciate what they have. Rossana, I love the line "freedom after thraldom".  It is only after some blue moments that you really appreciate the flavour of happiness, isnt't it?  By this I do not mean we need to suffer: I imply that we would not know the meaning of happiness if we had not experienced some kind of unhappy moments as well. Sara G. this morning I danced and jumped with my dog just before leaving for school.  I danced and jumped for 3 minutes and they seemed infinite joy, so I do see in your line "dance in a room" myself on certain days when music and dancing give me the perfect kick to start my day.
It is great that teenagers like you appreciate the gifts life as given you.  The poems you wrote express gratitude and heart-felt appreciation.  It is thanks to students like you that I get the energy to go on working as a teacher.

    Thanks.
    Your teacher of English.
