What’s poetry?

Frisson of surprise

Cabal of secret meanings

Revelation of new worlds, explanation of this one

THIS IS POETRY???

YOU can join words, sounds and rhythms

experiment with the shape and form of words on the page, build and break down the parts of words

YOU can apply the familiar to the unfamiliar

YOU can make language a SURPRISE, and make it memorable

No subject is too small for a poem

No subject is too big for a poem

Delve into the world of poetry, make people listen to you, feel as you do, step into your shoes.

Please, share your "initial" poems.  This is the one I wrote with you in class. (Do you remember it?  I asked you to write a word for each letter of your name and surname, words that somehow "speak" about you)

Play with the letters, display them on the page to give movement to the wonderful letters that constitute your name, your identity.

The place where we live in
The spot we were born in
    924,375,700 km of opportunities…
    They say.
    But is it like that?
    For real?
    I am young I know
But I see a poor world
    Not just money speaking
Not just fancy cars or big guns
I see no future for many of us
    Factories are closing down
    Industries are moving away
    I don’t see a bright future
But I won’t be one of the guys
    Who accepts those underpaid jobs
Who works in ugly places just for a couple of bucs
    I won’t be like that
    I like to dream big
    Like..
    Imagine that they were us
Those dudes you see on TV
    They’re famous
    They’ve got everything
They did something with their lives
    I admire them
They are those who all of us should be inspired by
Doesn’t matter if actors or athletes,
    Chefs or dancers,
    Scientists or tv hosts
They all passed through lots of troubles
But at the end of the day
    They made it
And I will make it too.
