The Realm of Poetry (Step 1 & 2)

We are going to experiment with creative writing and namely we are going to take our first step toward the realm of poetry.  The easiest way, in my opinion, is to start with acrostic poetry.  Look at these examples?

What is it then?

I want you to think about the days of the week.  Which one is the one you like the least? Why?  Which one is the one you like the most? Why?  Will you make some days longer and other shorter? Why?  If you were asked to attribute some qualities to your favourite day of the week, which adjectives would you choose?  Not easy.  You will realize that in your vocabulary bank, perhaps, there are not enough adjectives.  But it is adjectives that make us feel things, make us see things, make us perceive things at their best.  So if you want to write well, you need to expand your range of vocabulary.  How can you do that?  By writing, obviously, and by feeling the need to find words to express your feelings and thoughts.  When you feel this urge, you will look for the words you need and you won’t ever forget them!  Let’s express all this more clearly (I hope):

FEELINGs/THOUGHTs— NEED TO SHARE THEM —WHY NOT WRITING ABOUT THEM?—NEED OF NEW WORDS—LOOK UP THOSE WORDS—EMPOWER YOURSELF WITH NEW FORMS OF EXPRESSION—EXPERIENCE GREAT ACHIVEMENT:  all this is CREATIVE WRITING, so

LET’s TRIGGER strong emotions by launching the first challenge.

I want you to think of your favourite or unfavourable day of the week and write a poem on it: each line should start with the letter of the chosen day.

Look at this:

There are plenty of songs that refer to the days of the week, this is the one I used to listen to at your age:

If you happen to know songs in which the days of the week are mentioned, please post the title or the link in the “comment box” below.

Think of the quality you have that makes YOU UNIQUE.  Write it vertically and write a your poem, dedicated to yourself, YES, yourself.  It is a sort of selfie, but stronger than it.  You can attach an image to it if you wish.

So, all in all, you are asked to write to acrostic poems, one on one day of the week and one on a great quality of yours.

Post your poems in the Padlet below:

We are going to take a step further into the realm of poetry and we are going to experiment with concrete poetry or shape poetry. Look at the following examples. What does it consist of?

Think of something you cherish, you are fond of.  Write a poem in which you make it clear why that specific thing is special to you.  How does it make feel?  Write the poem in lines, first.  Then write the poem in the shape of its subject-matter and take a photo of it and post it in the Padlet below.  I attached mine.
