Debating Social Media

Social Networking

You discussed the pros and cons of the use of social media.  You watched the videos posted by Ms. Cimetta on her blog and responded to them.  You formed your own ideas as to the risks of living just in a virtual world (be it FB or Twitter, or any other social media you may use regularly).

Watch the following videos.  The first one raises points against having our lives ruled by social media and does this through a story-line and most of all through the use of poetry.  Music plays an important role too.  The second is an ironic response to it.   What are the issues they both raise?  Take notes.  Which video do you like more?  Why?  Which video do you fully approve of? Why?

A video criticising the way we use social media has become an internet hit with over 33 million views on YouTube.  ‘Look Up’ by British filmmaker Gary Turk says we’re “a generation of idiots” and “slaves to technology”.

This is the scritpt of the (video) poem.

Watch this video, what is your reaction to it? What is the irritating social behaviour you can spot? Has this become the norm? Do you see yourself in any of the situations? If so, does it seem questionable to you now, or do you think it is just what all people do and so you do it too?

See how some teenagers have responded to this video and compare their reactions to yours.

Society has become disconnected, according to rapper/artist Prince Ea. In a video he released on Facebook and Youtube on Sept. 30, the American poet declares “Why I Refuse to Let Technology Control Me.”  Did you know that a person spends an accumulated four years of his or her life looking down at their cellphone? That’s a virtual life of pixels on a screen, rather than a real life with real circumstances.

Prince Ea points out how Facebook has become the ANTI-social network because it separates and disconnects people rather than connecting them. Even when people are in the same room, or same bed even, their iPhone or iPad is still the focus of their attention.  Do you agree?

He continues by claiming that instead of friendships and real life interactions with loved ones, self-worth has become measured by the number of online likes and followers one can attain.  Do you think this is true for you too?  Do you see yourself in his descritpion?

However, the irony is that in order to reach so many people, the rapper had to use social media to spread his message.  What is the way out then?  How can we make sure that technology does not control our lives? (adapted from http://www.techtimes.com/)

Now look at the words and relisten to Prince Ea.  Do you agree with him? Disagree? To what extent?  Be precise and provide evidence.

Is social media ruining our lives, then?  The videos above suggest different approaches to social media.  The following video, may help you in your personal considerations.

In his first media interview, Turk tells ‪#‎BBCTrending‬ why he made the viral video.

And here are your projects!

Neknomination seen through the eyes of some teenagers!

So far you have been exposed to videos that somehow warn us on the unbalanced or better unhealthy use of social media. Can you find videos that, instead, highlights some of the positive uses of social media? Can you think of a video or presentation yourself?

  1. What videos say it’s that we look at our smartphones all day and in this way we lose time that we can spend meeting friends and staying with family or our partner. I liked most the last two videos because they show how we spend time watching a screen instead of spend our time talking or celebrating our better moments. And it’s so sad for example going to a concert and take pictures and record videos for all the duration of the show and watch it through a screen.
Or when you celebrate your birthday. You invited all your friends and instead of have fun we begin to take selfies of the cake or of us unwrapping the presents for share it on social network and let your followers see what you are doing. I approve the video of teens reaction because I’m in their same condition. It’s the daily life of teenagers. We are addicted to the cellphones. We focus only on our phone and we check on twitter, instagram or facebook to know if someone has posted something. What guys have said it’s that you’re not cool if you don’t have a cellphone in high school and it’s true I completely agree with them because you can’t share moments with friends and you are not connected to the whole world. We socialize yes but behind a screen and how can we show our personality behind a screen? And then when we meet with the person it’s like ‘hm.. ehm… ‘ and it’s really sad because you have so much to say but you said this with the cellphone. It’s hard to say but we can’t live without our smartphones. But there are advantages using the net. You can see from selfies or photos for example where are your idols and what they are doing. Or keep in touch with friends that are not with you or that do not live in your country. You have also the possibility of becaming famous and it’s great.

  3. These are scenes that I often see. The thing that irritate me most is when you are out with your friends but you are actually only phisically with them and you are always on your phone and you don’t communicate with your friends that are on their phones too. I think that this unfortunately has become the norm. I don’t see myself in any of these situations because for example when I go out with my friends we love to talk to eachother a lot about news, school and obviously boys.

I don’t agree at all because when I’m on the sofa or on the bed with my parents we talk about what happened at work or at school without looking at our phones.
Yes I kind of see myself in his description because sometimes, having a YouTube channel, I look at the likes and subscribers I have but I know that I’m worth beyond them.

As regards me, one of the ways out is to turn off the phones and so don’t look at them, for example, for a day so you can focus and understand what you used to do before having a pc or an ipad or a phone.

Yes I agree with him when he talks about the abbreviations while writing a message to a someone. Now this is disappearing and to someone it’s disappointeing (for example, for me, I find it unpolite and it seems they don’t have time to write all without any abbrevations).

I found this video that shows the positive effects of the social media
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDOhRXMGczQ
As for me I already have a YouTube channel where I share my opinions, everyday experiences and tips .

  4. LOOK UP / LOOK DOWN
“I have 422 friends yet I am lonely. I speak to all of them everyday yet none of them really know me” The term “friend” in social media does not necessarily involve the concept of real friendship (search Wikipedia for “friending”). Most of the “friends” we have on Facebook are just acquaintances, for example. Nobody thinks that a person with 422 friends on social media is familiar with all of them. The times might be changing but most of us still consider one or two people their bestfriends. Maybe he feels lonely because he compares the number of friends he has got on social media with the number of his true friends… But that doesn’t make any sense since the term “friend” is used in two different ways, as I explained aerlier. I think that people nowadays know the difference between a true friend and an acquaintance, and, for what I see, everyone especially looks for relatioships in real life.
“This media we call social is anything but when we open our computers and it’s our doors we shut”
It’s true that sadly we often see people gathered together who only look at their phones instead of having real conversations with each other, but in the video “Look Down” they point out something that we shouldn’t forget: when we don’t use technology do we automatically become more “social” in real life? Is “sitting in a dark crowded bar where you can’t hear yourself think” considered to be social? “Human interaction it’s sacred”, they say sarcastically. In my opinion technology is not an enemy for human interaction. How could I talk face to face with my relatives in Poland without Skype? How could I know how that French friend is doing at the moment without Facebook? How could I text my mum saying I won’t be home for dinner without my phone?
“If you read a book, paint a picture, or do some exercise You’re being productive and present not reserved and reclused You’re being awake and attentive and putting your time to good use” It seems like he doesn’t understand how much technology can be useful! Of course, if the only thing you do with your smartphone is texting, then you are not being very productive… But the point of smartphones and computers is that you can use them in thousands of different ways! You can be very productive! You have access to an infinite amount of information! Am I wasting my time when I search for something on the internet? “Where you see things, that without it, you never would have seen” is said in the parody. And I totally agree on that. It would be such a shame to miss things like communities of people who have things in common with me. Knowing that out there there are others like me makes me feel proud of what I like and what I don’t. It is like a supporting group on which you can always count… So, as you all understood I like the second video more. I fully approve of its message. But if I were to make a response for “Look up” I would also make clear that I understand where all this disapprovement comes from. I also feel bad sometimes because of people around me who seem to forget that it’s not nice to look at their phones while I am talking with them.
    I FORGOT MY PHONE TODAY
I really want to say that it is just an exaggeration, but personally I see these situations too often… It especially hurts when people you care about act like that. They are not doing it to hurt you but you end up thinking: “they want to be somewhere else”. Since I’ve felt like that I try not to do the same with others, but I admit I have also used my smartphone as a way to express my indifference when I was around people I didn’t like.
    TEENS REACT
I’m really happy to see that their reactions are exactly like mine. What I wonder is: do these teenagers realize the absurdity of the video’s situations even in real life? Because that’s the problem: people rarely notice the fact that they are excluding someone or missing something, because when they look at their phones they get distracted and they stop to care about what’s happening around them.

  5. The video I like the most is the second one, because I think the first one generalize many thems. Nevertheless, I don’t fully approve both the videos, because I don’t agree with all the points. For example, it’s true that teenagers spend a lot of time texting or doing something else in social medias, but it’s not true that they forget what real life is. The beginning of the second video really struck me. It jokes about the beginning of the first video, where the guy says: “I have 422 friends, yet I am lonely. I speak to all of them everyday, yet none of them really know me”. So the boy in the parody properly says that maybe “that’s why in real life no one wants to get to know me”. The other words who struck me are “Look up, look up, i’m afraid of technology! But obviously if you know my video go on Twitter and follow me”, because it is a paradox. For me, technology isn’t something bad if used in the right way.
Like in the previous videos, some thems are generalized. When the child is showing the cake, everyone is singing Happy Birthday, and they are holding mobile phones in their hands just because they are taking photos and shooting videos to catch that special moment, and in this case I don’t see nothing wrong. I see myself during the scene where there are some people sitting at a table in a restaurant. Sometimes I am the one who is holding the phone and texting, usually when I’m bored or when someone needs me, sometimes I’m the one who is leaving their phone in the bag or in the pocket, because I think that friends are more important than the rest, but if I am with people who are making their own business, I am tempted by taking off my mobile phone.

I don’t agree with Prince Ea, because saying that Facebook is anti-social. I think sometimes it it too much social, because you can be known by lots of people, maybe you become popular, and you risk to base your life on your popularity, or you risk everyone knows your own businesses… nevertheless, cases like this are “exceptions to the rules”. Thanks to Facebook, you can know new people, that maybe one day you’ll meet. Name of the game is to pay attention.
I don’t care about the number of likes and followers I attain, I don’t use social networks to increase my popularity. I prefer compliments face to face than likes.
Technology isn’t dangerous, if used well. It does not control our lives as long as we aren’t addicted to it, as long as we can spend some ours with friends without checking our smartphone every two minutes.

  6. They both, or better the first one, talk about the problem of the “invasion”of the mobile phones in our lives because we are surrounded by technology devices like i Pads and computers and we spend half of our lives fidgeting with our smartphones, giving to unknown people our like on a photo or playing computer games.
We are a generation of speechless because we don’t talk, for real, and we’re always communicate to each other with messages or vocal records, or posting just a photo or emoticons, because they speak for us, but is it right?
The great issue that they raise is that is it really important to use all the time our phones, shut our doors and staying alone and chatting with people that maybe don’t remember even our names and that are unknown but we call them the same friends? It’s not better talk to them face to face, to see their reactions, feelings and emotions?
The second video is a bit funny and ironic and I agree with the fact that If we don’t have mobile phones and we don’t use Internet how can we communicate with other people that are living in another part of the world and how can we contact them? I approve of both videos but I like in particular the first one because for example it’s not nice to talk to your friend or somebody else and then see them picking up their mobile phones because they have to answer to messages in Facebook or WhatsApp.

I FORGOT MY PHONE: It’s disquieting to see how the technology changed us and still change us. I can see my self in a lot situations of the video because you can talk all the time to your friends but how can they listen to what you are saying if they are with their mobile phones, from the sunrise to the night. They aren’t with you and then you feel alone and disappointed from all the people that you call friends and the person that you love. I feel sad when I see these scenes because I don’t use always my mobile phone and because I think that the real life is outside not in front of the screen of smartphones, or computers but I know how technology can be very contagious because we start to think not with our minds but how social media want.

Teens react to smartphones: Fortunately these teenagers realised the absurdity of using mobile phones in every moment of their life because we can make feel people sad and feel just like aliens and then you think why are you staying with people that even don’t listen to you and they even think that you are weird because you don’t use always your mobile phone but is it right?

  7. I agree more to “Look Down” that I do to “Look Up”.
In the first video, I can get people typing while you’re talking can be annoying, so I agree to the fact that we shouln’t be on social network 24 hours a day. But I think all the other things pointed out in “Look Up” are wrong. I can’t meet my friends every day (we have different things to do and can be often busy) and our phones are the only way we can communicate whenever we want. Also, what if I have friends who live faraway from me? Obviously we can only share things with each other by using social media. On internet, you can also find new friends with the same interests as you! Even if you’re shy and not very brave, behind a screen you can find the courage to talk with people you consider interesting and funny. And the point where he says “So when you’re in public, and you start to feel alone, put your hands behind your head, and step away from the phone.” doesn’t make sense; when I’m waiting for the bus, why can’t I look at photos on Instagram? Why should I spend minutes just looking at a grey road, when I can ask a friend how’s he doing?
So… I totally agree with “Look Down”.

I think some of the situations in “I forgot my phone” are too much exaggerated, for example the situation where people start taking selfies at the kid’s birthday party; none would do that, everyone can survive thirty seconds without the phone. And I can see nothing wrong with people recording the moment; in that way, they can live that moment again in the future! The same applies, for example to the concert. About the scene at the bar (or also at the bowling alley), I think that’s not about the phones, instead about the rudeness of some people. I think that they wouln’t care of listening to her even if they didn’t have phone. When I talk to friends, if they aren’t listening to me but typing on their phone, I think is because they’re not interested in the subject (and apparently they don’t care hiding that), not because they’re addicted to the phone.
I don’t think this is all wrong, the idea is wright, some people are just too obsessed with social networks and don’t even realise that, but it’s like they only show a small side of the issue.

  8. These videos talk about excessive use of the phone.. we use it at any time and situation in which we find ourselves. We are addicted to it. I like most the third video because I recognize myself in many of those situations. For example when they are celebrating birthday, they are all with a phone in their hands to take photos, selfies or video. Nowadays we prefer to show others that we are having fun rather than having fun. But the irritating social behaviour is when the girl is embraced her boyfriend and he has the phone in his hand. I can’t stand these behaviors because if I am with my special friend or boyfriens I prefer joke and speak with him. But when I’m with my bestfriend I am always use my phone to take selfie for show to other people that I am with them.
I use ALWAYS my phone (also when I go to the toilette ahah)! When I can’t sleep I use it and I fall asleep later and the next day I am tired. For this, my parents threaten me to sequster it to me and one time I left without phone for one week.

  9. Nowadays little children play always with tablet, ipad or video games on computer and rarely they play outside in the garden or we meet with friends to play without phones. When I was a child I loved to play hide-and-seek with my friends but more with my cousins because they took me to do things that nowadays children say “ bleh, I’m so dirty. It is a play all for male”.
I think that true friends are people that speak with you when you are in bad day and when you are a nice day. With social network doesn’t feel touched when you are building a feelings, doesn’t feel emotion to hug, doesn’t see the person with who are speak.
I liked most the third video because life without phone are possible, you can admire the landscape, animals but above all you can see people. When you are with friends is normal take phone to selfie or to photo cake or presents (for example when you are at bday) but this is blue, embittered and disappointing because you go out to have fun but your friends send message all the time with other guys.
I can’t stand people who laugh in front of this topic because this is our reality. Guys always take phone in hand when are walk in street, when are at the bus stop, when are with family but also when are with friends. I think is also an impolite because sometimes you’re too busy with phone that you can’t hear what people close with you say. Sometimes I see families at the restaurant who are the phone in front of his dish and they pay attention for phone but not for their family.
I see myself in this situations like when are at birthday I’ll take photo for everything for remember this wonderful day or when I’m in a different country and I taste new foods I shoot photo and i post it in social like instagram.

  10. LOOK UP/LOOK DOWN: In the fist video, the man said that we are idiots because we use the technology, social media like Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp. Also he said that if we use the mobile phones outside we can lose possibility. The real life is without phones and live every moment with our friends and our family.
The second video, the parody of Look up, is about the pros of technology. In fact with the phones we can take photos, see friends who are in other part of world with skype, send messages and call everyone. Live with the possibility of the technology.
I like the both of videos because they say all right things. I agree with the first video because our life don’t depend of technology. We can use less the phones and go away without it. The worst thing is that the children don’t want to go to parks or in the garden to play with the ball, with the dogs, run and run with their friends. They prefer to stay at home and spend all day to play videogames, play with iPad, and some parents give them the phones when they are at the primary school. But at the same time phones help our life. It is more easy with them. We use phones for take photos that we will see them and remember the best moments with our friends and our family. So for this reason I agree also with the second video.
I FORGOT MY PHONE/TEENS REACT:After seeing this video, I realise how people feel when they talk to me and sometimes I message and I don’t listen to them. A lot of people don’t care of the person who is with his/her, but they send messages to other people. Nowadays it is normal do this things, everybody do it. Also some people use the phone at lunch or at dinner when they are with their family, and they don’t talk to thier parents, but they prefer to talk with friends. I use the phone when I am with other people, but I think that I don’t do it because all people do it, but by now is a routine. I realise that I mistake when I talk to my friend and she doesn’t listen me.
I was sorprised how the video represent the real life because when I saw it, I thought “Oh, it is that I do every day”. The guys in the second video do the same thing that I do. And I think that even if I say “I use less my phone”, however I use it.
    CAN WE AUTO-CORRECT HUMANITY:
I like this video, especially when he said “what time ypou wanna Skype?”. I think that this happen a lot of time. Another sentence that I like is “I don’t wanna take a picture of all my meals anymore”; this thing happens every day. Many people, above all guys, take a photo of their lunch or dinner, when they eat pizza or hamburger. Sometimes I do it too when I eat whit my friends, to show to other people what I’m eating.

  11. Videos 1-2
They both raise the problem of technology, but in different ways. While the second video is more ironic and it is about saying yes to social media and technology the first one is against technology. From the second one we can understand that there are some things like video chat or face time that allow us to see people with our eyes, which is want that the author of the first video wants that we do. So there are some aspects of them similar but for the rest they are very different, also because the first one is more serious and show us a lot of issues in order to understand that we are becoming addicted to technology and we are wasting our lives, while the second video makes us more laugh then reflect on the problem.
My favorite video is the fist because he says things that impressed me, like when he speaks about the family and the precious time that we waste staying on a screen; but there are some others aspects that I don’t agree because there are some ( like it says the other boy in the second video) that are useful and important.
I don’t fully approve any of them because they both have some topics that I don’t agree with, like the rejection of the technology of the first guy and the little superficiality of the second.
    VIDEO 3
I can’t believe that people really do all these things because I don’t know anyone that behaves like the people in the video. Certainly I use my phone and my friends to, but if while I am with them someone starts using it instead of speaking with the others I immediately get angry because I do not want that telephones replace our real life. I think that all what they do in the video is irritable a part of making a video at the concert ’cause also I do it and it is for my recollections. I also believe that this, especially in big cities, is becaming the norm because being active on social media and have a lot of friends on Facebook to Twitter is something cool and if you don’t do it you’re not “in”. I don’t see myself in any of these situations because I have a phone but i can decide when use it or not, it is not the phone that controls me, and my life is not based on what there is in the phone.
    VIDEO 4
I am shocked by what some girls said and I think that they are addicted to the phone and they said stupid things. I am happy that almost a guy tell what also I think.
    VIDEO 5
I agree with what Prince Ea says about Facebook, but I don’t have it and I do not notice what other people think about me on social networks, so the descriptions of Prince Ea is not true for me. Technology does not control my life, so I don’t have this problems, but some people that I know can’t live without it and it is hard for them leave the phone home of do not check their messages. I agree with what he says on the video “Can we Auto-Correct Humanity?” because it is true when he says that nowadays we measure someone based on the number of his followers and likes and also when he says that with speak using 140 characters is true because i know some guys and also some adults that do it or that speaks just with abbreviations. I think that only the a use of social media can ruin our lives and if we use it just a little and we don’t became addicted to your phones technology isn’t a bad thing.

  12. Najda Bejo
    “Look Up”
It’s really that “we are the generation a idiot” because we are dipendent of technology. And it’s really that when we are with our friends, parents we are always with the phone in hand, the computer or the Ipad. The video that I liked most is the first because in this way I realize that it is true that “All this technology we have, it is just an illusion, of community, companionship, a sense of inclusion. Yet when you step away from this device of delusion, you awaken to see, a world of confusion.”
    “I forgot my phone”
I want to be onest, I depend of my phone, it is true. But not always because this depends on who I am. Looking the video I think that maybe I have to start changing myself because I don’t like it.
It is irritating that the people act like they do not care about what they have around.
Yes, this now is a norm and yes, I see myself in one of those situations and I am ashamed for this.
Absolutely no, everyone does what he/she wants. If I want to change the things for myself, I can.
    “Can we Auto-Correct Humanity?”
I agree with him because when I am in the same room with my brother or with my mum, 95% of the time I use my phone or the tablet.
Maybe this is true, but not for everyone. For example, my self-worth is always high, I’m not interested followers even what they say behind a social.
We may use technology when really we need it and spend more time with our friends and parents.

  13. I think that the video “I forgot my phone” it’s what happens now, the teenagers are always one their phones and when they are with their friends they use it and it isn’t respectful. I’m not in this case because when I’m witht friends I always speack with them, I turn on the sound of my cellphone only if my dad calls me, and put it on my pocket.
I use the phone a lot when i’m home alone, and I think this isn’t the right thing ’cause I do not do my homework well and then I take a bad mark.
I guess it is sad when someone take selfie and he or she doesn’t think about you.

  14. Both the videos say we spend a lot of time looking at our smartphones, but the first disapprove it meanwhile the second considers it positive and modern. I like more the second one because the speaker is very ironic and personally, I really appreciate irony. I definitely approve of the ironic one because it is true that technologies make our lives easier and we have some facilities we would not have without the Inthernet.
I would feel sad if I was that girl trying to talk with her friends, to laugh and to share feelings. People prefer looking at their phone instead of talking, but they do not realize they are being unsocial; this happens to me too but not that much: I use my phone when I am with my friends just when topics run out or I have to chat with my parents to let them know where I am or something ike that; obviously I do not like people who fidget while eating or talking with someone, it is unrespectful. I keep on using the phone the way I do it, I consider it neither unrespectful nor unsocial.
I agree with those guys, they admit they are a bit guilty even if checking the social netowrk for a little time is normal.
What Prince Ea says it is true but not always people attention is focused just on an iPad. This way people are compared to machines, but not everyone acts like that. I do not see myself in his description because I am not that much anti-social and always connected to the Net to get some likes and followers. I think the way is using less the phones, not stopping using the social media, it is fun to have Social Network but these have to be used well and not to disconnect to the rest of the world.
Social media is not ruining our lives; the way we use it ruins our lives.

  15. – In both videos the theme is the excessive use of smartphone and social media. I prefer the first video because I think that sometimes we spent too much time surfing on the internet or chatting, but the worst thing is that too many people use the phone or any other device.instead of meet and talk with people.
I do not fully approve none of these videos because I think the technology has both a good and a downside. In fact, it make some things faster and easier and nowadays we are as accustomed that we cannot live without.
The fact that a video criticizing the way we use social media has become an internet hit with over 33 million views on YouTube is a contradiction.
For example I agree with Gary Turk that some parents cannot entertain a child without using an iPad, and you can see this on the train or at the restaurant and I think it is a serious problem.

    – This is the video that I like more because it is simply and at the same time shocking because it is the truth about teenagers and their rapport with social media. The irritating behavior I can spot is that the people around us sometimes are more interested from their smartphones rather than us and this can make everybody feels lonely and sad. I think the author of this video overstate, probably for highlight the problem and make people meditate on this. I do not see myself in any of the situation at all, but I approve that at times it has happened to me.

    – I agree with these teenagers but for me it is not the norm. When I am with somebody I use my phone really few times and I hate when other people do not pay attention on what I say, it is not educated and it happens rarely.

    – I agree with Prince Ea because lot of times happens that other people who are in the same room of me (for example in the living room with my brother or my parents) do not talk because we are too “busy” using our smartphones, tablets and PCs.
My self-worth does not depend on how many likes or followers I have. I found it stupid because it is not necessarily have social network to be a beautiful and attractive.
I think that the technology is not controlling our life. Social media are certainly useful but many people use these too much and they have to open their eyes and understand that we do not need to stay always connected.

    – I agree with this sentence “Technology has made us more selfish and separate than ever” because social network can help you to meet new people but at the same time you are not really meeting them. The problem is that some people prefer chat than talk face to face and that is sad.
Now I do not use abbreviation on conversation, but two or three years ago I used to and I found it useless.

  16. My reaction to the second video is negative. In that video I can spot like a person bacame “slave to technology”.
The first video shows with simple and daily images the importance of life and of the reality.
I don’t approve fully one of this video. I’m agree with both. I think that the socials are helpful, but in my opinion the people of the World take advantage of these, so I’m agree with Gary Turk when he says that we are “slave to technology”.
In the fourth video young boys and girls see the third video and they comment it with negative judgments. But sometimes they compare their behaviour with the behaviour seen in the video and they realize that their behaviour is the same.
I use Social Network, I use Facebook mainly. I think that the important people for my life aren’t my friends in Facebook. For me, the friendship isn’t a relationship based on Social Network, but a human relationship.

  17. The issue they both raise is mobile phone use among the people. Prince Ea has said something that I wasn’t knowing and now I will explain what I think and my ideas on the argument. I use my phone is for entertainment when I am alone or if I need to call, text somebody or surf on the Net, but I always try to find a balance between the Internet and other activities. I liked most the first video because nowadays some people are living tormented by the technology, forgetting to live the real life and the consequence of this is very sad. They lose opportunities and deprive the destiny do its job, the chance to find the real love and the real happiness. This video is a lesson for adults and especially for we, young people, that use their phone always more and receive their first phone even before they needed it. We are the most affected by this situation and forget the things that really are important for our future. However, I sometimes see my classmates walking around, looking down at their phones without even realizing the world around them. I see some people sitting together, looking at their phones or families during the lunch or dinner use their phone, not even talking to each other. I hate these situations. That doesn’t mean that you have to completely separate from technology, because technology will always be part of ours lives, but we don’t let technology consume our life. Some people always have found the Internet as a place to make friends and feel comfort, but independently of the number of friends that people have in the social network, the truth is that they never been so alone. I think that is fantastic know new people on social network (especially Instagram), but I prefer know and make friends in my ‘real life’, because when I have really need of someone, the social network don’t help me. Only my real, true friends (who really know me) can help me. I fully approve the third video of relationships between couples and friends because sometimes I can’t hold a conversation with a few of my friends for more than 10 seconds without them looking at their phones in the middle of the conversation. It frustrates me so much. Its like “hello! I’m talking to you!” It is very frustrating but nothing is better than picking our head up from our phone and experiencing the world and making memories. Our mind and brain is one big storage closet, we will always remember what we did, where we were, who we were with and so on. We don’t need our phone to do that. When I’m in certain occasions like hangouts, bowling, parties, birthdays, bars, but when I simply stay at home to a family or friends hangouts too, depend from the situation, but I usually use my phone the least possible, only I really need of something. When I stay with my friends I don’t need my phone because I amuse and I want spend my time with them and if they use their phone I felt sorry because I think that they aren’t fine with me. I love technology, I think this is a wonderful thing, but you default when it’s or not the right time to use it.

  18. Look up/Look down:
When I started to watch this video I was like “Oh my god that is right” and then I started to laugh because is ridiculos that nowdays all of them are completely addicted to tecnology. I think that this parody makes you understand that just few people,or nobody, spent the afternoon out without phones, nobody can go out without take the own phone and those things now became so normal. You may notice the boy’s reaction to the previous video, you can understand very well his point of view that shows even a little teasing using the same words of the other. He want to tell us that the generation now is made of tecnology and this tecnology can be a good aspect too because, like he says, you can find someone who interest you and one days you can meet him or her and,you can even became “famous” on the web making video or parody like this. I see my self in this situation, but I never admit it. My mum say to me: You are always with the head down the phone, you never help me,you stay too much hours with tecnology!” So,I can stay without it for some days,if I really want. I believe that all people can do this because we all can lives without electronic device. But,our lives would be different, and we should do a lot of things more. Phones, computer, tables are been created to makes our lifes a little bit easy so..why cut them out our lifes?
    Questions Prince Ae:
I agree with the fact that there is a disconnection throught people when they look down at their phone…the are in the same room,in the same sofa and they are looking at the phone and there is no discussion between them..
Do you think this is true for you too? Do you see yourself in his descritpion? I think yes because now the real image of who we are is post on our internet profile, all the photos we post, all the people we look at,all the people that click like on our photos. The relation ship, the family relation, when do we talk with our parents? All the time we are with the head down of the phone or computer and our personality is more avaible con the web than in our heads.
How can we make sure that technology does not control our lives? We should have a really willpower,we should switch off our devices and go out or more easy let our phones in another room and take a book or a photo album, but does your head switch off with our phone? Prince Ea want to comunicate us that all that we do is all that we want to do. Those electronic devices control us and why don’t we control them? If there is an opportunity to wake up to this “situation” for me is really hard to change things for all people.

Now look at the words and relisten to Prince Ea. Do you agree with him? Disagree?
I agree with him sure but I can’t think of a life wihout my phone. And without my computer too. I know well that all people dipends to the tecnology but I can’t say anything because I’m into this group. The days I decided to spent wihout connection I remember that I was more friendly, less nervous and more happy. Because on the web and all the messages that I recieve not always make me feel good. So,without stay hour and hour to look on a device I felt fine. Naturally, then I returne to my whatsapp and other social but two or three days without connection and electronic games is right. If you think that is impossible,do not say it before, try!

  20. LOOK UP
In this video are reflected many of my thoughts. I agrre with the fact that the present life is based on the communication of social Networks.
I often talk with my friends through Whatsapp and Facebook, so the type of relationship that is created is more detached and sometimes superficial. However Facebook or other social are important to get publicity in their work and to communicate with people far away with us.
Besides, we must also say that we are the children of our time, for that is impossible to turn back.
We can only improve of social Networks, without that they prevent us from living.
    I FORGOT MY PHONE
In this video shines loneliness. In fact the girl is unable to share any im portant moment of her life.
    TEENS REACT
I really like the fact that teenagers have my own opinion about about the social.
I was surprised that many guys saw themselves in some moments of the video.

  22. Look up- Look down
The issues they both raise are that all people are always chatting on their phone instead of talking to people who maybe are even in the same room and right before us, that we are waisting lot of our life-time on playing with the smartphone, the computer, watching TV or wahtever, and not living our life properly. I think I prefer the video ” Look up” because I was really moved, I think also because of the images he put in the video, in fact I think that they can really make you realize how much we are waisting time in almost useless things, compared to the ones we could do.

Yes, I fully agree because sometimes it happens also to me,and when I realize I did such a thing, I feel really bad about it.

The second point doesn’t concern me at all, yes, I have social networks and I check how many likes I have or how many followers, but if I do not have lots of both it doesn’t bother me.

I also think that technology controls our life too much, and, as a matter of fact, most of people cannot do anything without it, but luckily there are also some advantages of using technology, for instance, you can search things on the net, or communicate with friends that are in other countries.

  23. Nowadays more and more people are becoming as in these videos. Every morning when I take the bus I saw guys that are watching at their phones or listening to music and if you greet them seems that you are disturbing. It’s sad to say but I know people that went to a concert and instead of watch it and enjoyed themselves, they make videos all the time and watch the show through a phone.
I agree with the video ” look up” because it’s true that there are some people that are always looking down at their cellphones, also when they are with friends or with their partner. And when he said: “the parks are so quiet, it gives me a chill to see no children outside and the wings hanging still”; I felt lucky because when I was a child I didn’t have a tablet or a smartphone so I lived the best way. Everyday I was outside with my friends, we played to explore our city or we climbed trees. Unfortunately today parks are empty and the children are in their house playing with tablets or playstations.
However I am not entirely agree with any of the two videos. I think technology is important but we have to understand when and how use it. Sometimes the technology is the only way we can speak to friends that are in other country or learn something about a place far away from us.

When I was watching the video “I forgot my phone” I think NO, IT’S IMPOSSIBLE, but thinking of it I realised that it is what we can see everyday. I do not see myself in any of these situations because I am careful to don’t use telephone when I am with someone or when I am doing something important. For exemple, when I eat with my family I don’t take the phone in the kitchen, but I leave it in my bedroom to be sure I do not use it.

Personally I agree with Prince Ea. I think we spend too much time with our phone which we can use in other ways, to do something else, something better. When he speaks about abbreviation I thought that if we haven’t got time to write the whole words, means that the person we are writing is not so important to dedicate our time.
